All CAPS! Decorated Initials: Formal to FunkyCherryl Moote
The illuminated letter awaits! For centuries people have marvelled at the richly decorated capital letters in books, created with vibrant colours and precious gold, tooled with delicate patterns that inspired many of the tangle patterns used today. In this class you will create one beautiful initial while learning how to paint with gouache and gild with modern metallics. The decorated initial you create with be further enhanced with tooling using a method that is easy to learn and adds texture to your work. We will be using nonprecious metals in class but a demonstration of traditional tools and materials will be given. Your handout will include a full exemplar of initials that you can use to create decorated letters for cards, certificates and framed pieces. The Joy of Koi – Tangled Japanese Koinobori

The Koinobori is a carp-shaped three-dimensional kite that is traditionally flown to celebrate Children’s Day in Japan. They are flown during Golden Week (which just happens to start on April 29, 2016 - the day of our class!) and are notable because of their striking colors and delicate patterns. In this class, we will construct a 3D mixed-media miniature version of these beautiful kites and decorate them using tangles inspired by beautiful Japanese Chiyogami paper. Zero Drawing

In this class you will learn the Zero Drawing technique using stencils, pencils and erasers to add a new dimension to your Zentangle art. Zero Drawing is a subtraction technique created using various tools to learn the art of removing to create these airy and peaceful backgrounds perfect to tangle in. Zero Drawing is from the book “Pencil Magic” by Marie Browning, among our tools are the Zero Eraser and Mono Eraser by Tombow. Jerryann Haggart

Shimmering colours washing into each other, imbedded strings, splashes, bubbles, and folds all enhance the gorgeous backgrounds to inspire your tangling.We will be playing with some special effects using every day materials, and will use them in new and exciting ways. You will receive a mini set of twinkling H2O’s water colour paints, along with brush, tiles and everything else you need to create your own enchanting colour tiles. Learn the secrets of setting up to ensure a lovely result. And of course we will have fun with some brand new tangles to embark on a soft shimmering romance with these enticing results. In today’s busy, busy world, finding time to tangle, build your business, exercise, clean your house and be a spouse, parent and friend can feel overwhelming. At it’s core, Zentangle® is about finding focus. Learn how to take this focus into other areas of your life by creating a clear plan for what you want. In this workshop, Dr. Minette Riordan will share 5 strategies for creative time management so that you can overcome overwhelm and have more time to focus on what matters most. Plus, you will create a simple tangled journal that makes a great class project. Minette will begin with a core values assessment followed by inspirational pieces around why knowing what you want is the key to time management. Then we’ll move to mind mapping and how to turn that into a to-do list! She will share a few strategies on managing your to-do list, how to create an effective time management system and what works best for creatives. She will share fun resources like bullet journaling and why they work for creatives. We don’t plan like anyone else! The class includes a lesson plan for creating the tangled journal and how to use the core values assessment with students. |
Mandala and Colored Pencil TechniqueKate Lamontagne
Create a mandala inspired by a classic nautical symbols. Using the cardinal directions, ships wheel and compass rose as our inspiration you will create a mandala using the Helix circle maker and colored Sakura Microns pens on beautiful Mi Tientes paper. Then you will learn Kate’s signature Prismacolor Premier pencil techniques, resulting in velvety rich blended colors. We will talk about the nature of colors and how they relate to one another, and then the theme of your mandala will be to use a color family from beginning to end. The result will be a beautiful kaleidoscopic mandala with finish details using Sakura Gelly Roll pens. Technique Tune-up!
