Meaningful Mantras
Minette Riordan, CZTIn this workshop we will combine prayers, mantras and ancient spiritual traditions into a modern version of a Prayer Flag. Traditionally, prayer flags were used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. You will create your own meaningful mantra and prayer flag designed to hang out of doors. The Tibetans believe that as wind passes over the surface of the flags, the mantras are shared out into the world. You can create one or an entire string of them to share your mantras, prayers and intentions. Our prayer flags will feature a tangled hamsa or hand. The hamsa creates a wonderful string for tangling mindfully and bringing more Zen to our Zentangle® practice.
Tangled Birds for all ages!
Maria Vennekens, CZT
Have you ever panicked when you were asked to:
- teach a group of 25 + kids
- aging 7 – 12 years old
- some with and others without Zentangle knowledge
- class would only be 45 minutes
- no use of tiles
- there should be a connection to the theme the school is working on at the moment.
After this workshop there will be no need for panic anymore. We will follow step by step how you can handle this – using a class on strange birds. At the end of the workshop we will discuss how you can translate the approach to any other theme the school asks you to work with.

Put the Zen in Zentangle®
Brian Crimmins, CZT
While a Zentangle class in and of itself can be a relaxing and rewarding experience, very often the lessons become more about the supplies, the drawing, and the technique. By leveraging one, many, or all of the ideas and strategies provided in this workshop, you can easily go from “teaching a class” to “creating a mindful experience,” or from offering a “workshop” to offering a “mindfulness retreat” centered around the Zentangle method. This fun, interactive and experiential workshop will draw upon a variety of multi-sensory influences that will include using the Zentangle method in new and different ways for both groups and individuals.

In this class I will show you how will use 3Z tiles to create a Zen Button that can be configured into 3 small buttons or 1 large button. A demonstration will be given on how to use a protractor and/or freehand design. Suggestions will be given for tangles and fragments that show the best results. And of course there will always be lots of humor tossed in my presentation because that’s just how I roll.
