Venetian Plaster Deck Weekend On-line RetreatImagine a whole weekend creating worn surfaces in venetian plaster, creating photo image transfers and learning a varitiey of paper altering and finishing techinques.  A weekend, online with your art friends from near and far. Creating for two days with Leighanna Light! 

Leighanna tells us about her inspiration: This workshop was inspired by a decaying batch of vintage photos that I found at the thrift store in Questa, New Mexico. They were delicious, with big blotches where heads used to be, missing limbs, ghostly silhouettes, but they were much to precious to use so I decided to make my own!

In this retreat you will:
Learn how to create the look of old worn surfaces... think peeling paint, hundred year old walls in Italy and rusty grunge. We will be working with Venetian plaster, one of my favorite supplies, and adding ink, paint and other non-acrylic mediums to create dynamic textures and patterns. You will also create easy, stunning photo transfers and how to combine transfers with fabulous texture. 
Take your art to the next level by incorporating these simple, fast and easy techniques into your painting, collages, journals, assemblages or just about any creative project. You will create a (mostly) finish deck of eighteen 6 x 3 inch cards with 36 surfaces, containing a diverse and intriguing body of work.

No experience necessary, just come with an open mind, a playful heart, and leave your inner critic at home... or in another room.

Complex Simplicity with Mixed Media Instructor Serena Barton

Complex simplicity refers to a piece that is simple in composition while it also contains layers of color and texture underneath the top layers. These layers make the difference between a flat, uninteresting piece and a vibrant, alive, work that intrigues the viewer. You’ll discover the magic of complex simplicity in this experimental workshop! I’ll show you techniques to layer and texture your work, materials for atmospheric pieces, and how to loosen up and create with enjoyment.
We’ll explore texture methods, layering, color choices, and composition. We’ll use plaster over gesso as a base for your work. We’ll incorporate palette knife work, marble dust, sand, acrylic paints, inks, stencils, collage elements, and mark-making with various tools. I’ll provide you with a PDF booklet that includes images of various techniques.
This workshop will free you to experiment with confidence. You can add and subtract elements all the way through, so no worries about “mistakes.” Some lovely things can happen accidentally, and changes are easy to make. We’ll have demonstrations, time to work, and time for sharing and questions. The process of interacting with your materials in an open and exploratory way will lead you to pieces you love.
